Creative Spaces

WElCOME to my workshop. This is my private, creative, and very sacred, special space.

It took a long time to get here and I am so very grateful that I have this place in my life.  Having a sacred space in which you can feel free to create in is valuable but, trust me,  this wasn’t always the case.

When I began creating several years ago, I started out on my dining room table.  I worked on my paintings or art and then painstakingly  packed up all of my stuff each and every day after I finished. Once I started to sell my work, graduated to a corner of my garage amidst tools tractors and everything else.  Slowly and surely this space seemed to grow. The farm tools were moved to the barn and my workshop/art studio evolved.  I am so very grateful to now have this creative space.

Blessings and Rituals

I have a daily ritual and a blessing that I perform every time I go into my space.  It is super important for me to clear my mind and be connected to the creative consciousness, to tap into this place that feeds my creativity and this is something that can be done if you are sitting at your dining room table or in the special corner that you have created for yourself and your work.   I clear my mind and then I clear the air and sage the room before I begin.  Its as if it helps my mind understand that it is time to get to work.  Rituals can be very personal and meditative and in my opinion are important because they work for me -Take time to develop your own rituals before you begin your painting practice and find the one that works best for you.

The most important thing that you can do is create time in your life to be creative. It doesn’t matter if you have the corner of a table and have to clean it up after each time you work, it is all worthy and it all matters.

You are important and your creativity matters. The world needs your light.  :)

Hi Heather. Thank you for reaching out. I understand completely what you are saying about creativity. Space is very important and also a ritual is important too. I light a candle, meditate and adjust my mind to get ready to begin. Sometimes it works better than others. I need to feel connected to the earth and balanced with a clear mind. Meditating has helped me take my creativity to a higher level. Once the junk is cleared out there is lots of space for new ideas to grow. Please say hello to Trudy from me. xo Happy creating. I also post regularly on instagram at maryann_burrows.art and on facebook under MaryAnnBurrows@authorandillustratorofkidsbooks. Hope to see you there. INSTAGRAM LINK

  2. Thank you for those words of encouragement. I’ve been struggling with my creativity….. sometimes it comes easy; other times I question my desire. I think a space that had more light, space and a accessible sink would help but I read what you wrote and put on great music, teapot and moved over my canvas calmly and crestively .

I’m so glad my friend Trudy McCartney directed me to your website. It is wondeful and encoraging . Heather
